Poem: The Dandelion

April 25, 2023

Yesterday when my dad grabbed me by

My body and handed me to my mom, they threw me

Out onto the sidewalk to give their energy to

Precious orchids that laid around their house.

But today I am alive in the

Cracks of concrete with my friends. Outside, it’s perfect.

I can feel the sun resting itself on my body

All day and I’m surrounded by those

Who look like me. Looking at where I live and seeing nothing but cement

And the dirt from people’s shoes, I find that I grow better here.
